James Talk & Ridney - West End Girls 2009
Brit producers James talk and Ridney collaborate on a slick reversioning of the Pet Shop Boys' West End Girls. Track starts out with a powerful minor to major string chord paired with a driving bass sustain. Things continue to build until a break at the half way point where the "West End Girls" theme is teased using a chord structure that echoes its chorus, combined with a nicely written synth counter-melody. This all leads to the introduction of some dancefloor shaking percussion, initiated by the three-note bass phrase, so synonymous with the Pet Shop Boys' original. West End Girls 2009 works so well on dancefloors as it delivers immediately recognisable music, yet is made largely of original -- and very well produced material. It's really more of a homage to the original than a cover. Great work - thanks goes to Pete Tong for the discovery!
