Marc Marzenit - Not Assigned
Favored by DJs like Tiësto and John Digweed, Marc Marzenit's distinctive brand of techno is attention-grabbing. According to his Myspace, Marzenit's influences range far and wide from J.S Bach to Mike Oldfield, although, the minimal sensibility on offer in Not Assigned seems far removed from many of them. With a fierce percussive backing, Marzenit drives the listener into a hard-stomping frenzy as rhythmic layers are combined. Musically, there is very little on offer. This isn't the kind of production where you'll find harmonies or key structure. The central theme is instead a slightly nightmarish ascending synth sting. A kind of futuristic Master Alarm. It's the ferocious calling-card of the track and if you see it in context, it will drive a techno-obsessed crowd over the edge. Overall, Marzenit offers a dark and intense production in the minimal techno genre.
