Lake and Lys - Humanica EP

A great new production from Lake & Lys. Hot from the massive worldwide success of La Tromba, they return with Humanica EP. This double-bill sees the launch of two great but very different productions. Humanica (above, featuring Steve Smith from Dirty Vegas) is in La Tromba territory as a catchy harmonica motif drives the production forward. Upbeat and in a major key, its combination of driving synths and vocal samples is catchy and powerful on the right floor.


My favorite of the two tracks, however, is Sloan (above). Opting for an old-school approach, minor-key chord stabs form the backbone to a retro-percussive anthem in the making. A particularly nice touch is the half-way point breakdown. Here, the production calms down for a couple of bars as a gentle synth melody creates a restful break from the full percussive backing. It works as an effective contrast to the floor-shaking beats that eventually return with dramatic intensity. Overall, great music once again from Lake & Lys.
