STS9 - Atlas
STS9 are an electronic jam band that fuse live instruments with electronica. Atlas, featured here from the forthcoming album is well worth checking out. It combines an intense, cinematic sensibility with driving percussion and well-crafted melodic combinations. Exploring a sound palette that relies heavily on distortion and contrast, Atlas perfectly captures a dark and twisted ambiance. The evolving vocal and string harmonies fit perfectly with the dark piano/guitar motifs and grinding basslines. There's also something relentlessly fresh about this track, as one interesting harmonic idea leads to another. A first rate composition with truly epic production values. STS9's new album Ad Explorata coming out in December.
