Riva Starr - Black Cat, White Cat

According to his MySpace, Riva Starr "plunders the best in tech house and beeping, burping synth lines to create a dirty, messy dancefloor affair". I thought that nicely described his exciting yet manic new release, Black Cat White Cat. Demonstrating Starr's "sneak-in-and-blow-the-place-up approach", he kicks things off with a bouncy bassline rhythm that's fairly quickly developed into a full blown march. Off the bat, this creates an excitable atmosphere. But it's the introduction of a deliberately-dated string sample, complete with sporadic digital bleeps that really gets the lunacy going. And later, a deadpan female vocal rhythmically speaks the word "bomb" (or is it "um"!?). It's a creative collage. Overeall, a track that's very hard not to like, especially when you have an appreciate of Starr's crazed yet creative style.
