Felix Da Housecat - We All Wanna Be Prince (Paper Faces Remix)

Felix Da Housecat's eighties-influenced homage to Prince is an interesting patchwork of styles with every lyric lifted from a Prince song. Here, the original is given a first rate remix by UK outfit Paper Faces. A looped low-register synth motif is the driving force behind this version. In some ways this remix works like a five minute crescendo, simple to start with and gradually building with ever growing intensity. Musically the same sequence persists throughout but this is effective, adding a hypnotic quality to the proceedings. The lyrics fit perfectly with this backing and repeated snippets of vocal are used to powerful effect (eg 2:29). Later, a small lull in the sonic growth (3:29) clears the way for things to keep growing. Overall, a powerful production.
