Paloma Faith - Stone Cold Sober (Cicada Remix)

This is a well crafted, fresh-sounding remix with popular crossover appeal. Cicada strip Faith's funk-filled vocals from the original and embed them into something entirely new. A bed of vocal sample loops kick things off, as the track's transformed into high-gear with pulsing bass notes on the off-beat and a double-melody made of two interlinking synth motifs. This returns for the newly made chorus where strings are added for extra impact. My favorite section is a reverb-soaked string break about two-thirds in that builds to a massive return of the chorus, when string countermelodies are introduced. This is a terrific remix that will go beyond clubland.
