Steve Lawler - Hocus Pocus

Lawler's drum-driven Hocus Pocus explores tribal-style beats, with its interweaving bed of complicated percussion patterns. Musically sparse, it instead focuses on creating a drum groove that propels the track forward. Its percussive elements are fresh and well thought out - deviating quite substantially from standard four-to-the-floor house beats. Additional counter-rhythms and drum fills create a pleasingly percussive groove, similar in style to a live drum set. Also interesting are the vocal samples, giving an almost middle-eastern feel to the piece. A first class production from Steve Lawler.
