Jean Claude Ades - Shingaling Ft. Sam Obernik

It's hard not to love this little record that's so large right now. An eight-bar slice of authentic vocal-driven salsa, utilizing the full spectrum of latin jazz instrumentation -- trumpet, piano, conga -- sandwiched between body-rocking house beats and bass. Somehow the combination of styles works. One style of dance meets another and the effect is explosive. Part of its dancefloor appeal is the immediate recognition factor, once the vocals strike. A more chart-friendly vocal version is available now, but the original is still my favorite -- a fresh production indeed.
